Last summer seventeen-year-old Nadia Clarke got the chance to spend a month helping out in a hospital inAfrica. She had one year left at school, and was interested in studying medicine at university. She thought it wasthe perfect chance to get some experience and to see if she really wanted to be a doctor.
It was a month that changed her life. She was introduced to a world that was very different to hers in so manyways. She was shocked at how poor so many of the families over there were and how difficult their lives could be.However, they were positive(积极乐观的) and helped each other.
Her work in hospital was hard. She spent a lot of time cleaning floors, changing bed sheets, and looking afterthe patients(病人). And she got the chance to talk to some doctors and ask them about the profession. She sawsome truly awful things in the hospital, but none of them changed her mind about being a doctor.
When she finished, she knew exactly what she was going to do-she wanted to work for an intemationalorganization like the Red Cross, She couldn't wait to get started.
