  • Experts’ research shows that nearly 25% of British people, including children, are overweight(超重的). The government is worried and it is looking for ways to solve the problem. Many 11-14-year-old children already do cookery(京任)at school but from 2011, the government is making this compulsory(必修的). They hope that this will encourage people to cook instead of eating ready meals and fast food.
All middle school students will have cooking lessons for one hour a week for one term. They will learn to use simple, fresh food items, and follow simple instructions to prepare healthy, tasty meals, for example, a good tomato sauce for Italian noodles.
And schools are setting up cookery clubs called “ Let's Get Cooking” throughout the country. The clubs will give more children the chance to learn to cook after school. Head Teachers worry about the equipment they will need for the lessons. About 15% of schools do not have kitchens and there are not enough cookery teachers.
The government has planned to train 800 cookery teachers and to give schools 2.5 million a year to help children from poorer families to pay for the food items.

    A pay for meals

    B have fun

    C make money

Plants make food from sunlight, water, air and so on while some animals feed on( 以……为食 )plants directly. For example, locusts(蝗虫)are small insects.Millions and millions of locusts in a group can eat anything that is green, including a lot of food that people need.In India, locusts have ever destroyed many fields of crops. However, locusts can be food for birds, chickens, ducks and other living things, even humans. Humans are at the top of the food chain. They eat not only locusts, but also birds, chickens, ducks and many other plants and animals. They are members of many food chains, but they often break up the food chains. Each form of life is linked to all the others.Breaking the links puts all lives in danger.Humans should share the world with other living things in peace.

  • 请根据以下短文内容,回答短文后面的问题,答题词数不得超过10个单词。 Contrary to popular belief, colds are not caused by exposure to severe weather.Colds are caused by viruses inside, and you're safer when skiing or even waiting for the bus on a snowy day than you are in a warm room, surrounded by friends,co-workers,or fellow students, who just may be passing the viruses around. If you feel a chill, you're already sick.A chill is an early sign:It's the cold that causes the chill, not the other way around. While the virus can spread through air when a cold-sufferer coughs or sneezes, surprisingly, this is not the most common route of transmission.Numerous studies have now shown that the majority of colds are“caught”by hand contact.A cold-sufferer rubs her nose, thereby transferring the virus to her hand. Then a friend comes to visit.“Don't kiss me,”she warns,so the friend steps back and presses her hand. The friend then wipes her own nose or eyes, and several days later is stricken with a cold.Or parents pick up their child's used tissues and carefully throw them away, but fail to wash their hands afterwards. Cold viruses also can be transferred to objects—telephones, towels, plates—and remain infectious for up to three hours.Frequent hand-washing—on the part of the cold-sufferer as well as other members of the household— will minimize the spread of viruses.

    1. How long can cold viruses on objects survive at most?
